Switched Long Distance

Switched long distance are calls that connect to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) via the prescribed inter exchange carrier (PIC) assigned to the outgoing telephone line. Switched long-distance call fees include per minute use charges for both the originating and terminating ends of the call. This does not require any additional equipment on the customers' premises.

Dedicated Long Distance

Dedicated long distance are calls that connect directly to the long-distance provider and then out to the PSTN. Dedicated Outbound Long Distance service provides local access to the carrier national network via a local loop circuit using carrier-owned and operated facilities/third-party provider facilities or customer arranged facilities (customer-provided access). Actual bandwidth and speed of circuits can vary from 56/64 K or 1.544 MBps up to one GBps, depending upon need. Customers will need long-distance routing equipment on their premises to accommodate dedicated long distance.
